OK, here's my new method of tabbing hi-hats:
H   |x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-| is obviously closed hi-hats.

H   |s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-| "splashy" hats (if you strike it once, the sound will be loose but will stop within a second)
H   |X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-| Open hi-hats.

H   |X---x---x---x---| if this is the case, the hat pedal will be up on 1,
Hf  |----x-----------| and down on 2 when you make the second strike.

C   |----------------|x... The "looseless" sound will be held until the
H   |x-x-x-x-x-x-X---|-... crash strike.  (Like Smells Like Teen Spirit)
Hf  |----------------|x...
